Highland Heads To Region Vi Playoffs

Last week it was Sophomore Night in Ben Allen Field House on Wednesday as Highland honored the basketball and cheer sophomores in their final regular season home contest. Parents, guests and fans came from far and wide to celebrate our student athlete's accomplishments over their time at Highland.

Women's Basketball (19-11)

Courtney Davis, in her final home game as a Scottie, saved one of her best performances until now. Davis led all scorers in the Hesston game with 23 points, shooting 8-13 from the floor. Davis added 7 rebounds and 6 assists to complete an impressive stat line. Coach O'Brien said, "Courtney gave us a great spark on the offensive end.  She had her season high of 23 points.  It was nice to see her shot falling from the 3-point line, which is what we have been missing the last couple of games.  I think this momentum will carry over into play-offs and help us offensively."

Brandi Dunn (11 points) and Kenadi Rising (10 points) were the other Scotties scoring in double digits versus Hesston.

In the end, it was hustle and effort that won the game 67-57 for the Scotties. One of the most significant stats to indicate this theory would be the difference margin of points scored off turnovers. Highland capitalized with 19 points scored off of Hesston turnovers, while the Larks couldn't muster a singe point off of a Highland turnover.

Men's Basketball (14-15)

Sophomore Night for the men's team saw three separate Scotties scoring in double digits, unfortunately for Highland, their opponents had five players match that mark. Hesston won the game 103-71, shooting an impressive .500 from behind the 3-point arc.

RJ Sears lead all Scotties with 20 points. Greg Moore added 19 points in the effort and Chris Flippin scored 14 points and grabbed 14 rebounds.

Hesston's Luke McGinnis led all scorers with 27 points, shooting 9-14 from behind the arc.

Playoffs

The Scotties begin post-season play tomorrow night in the NJCAA Region VI Tournament. The #3 seed women's team, led by Head Coach Jordon O'Brien, hosts #6 Neosho in Ben Allen Field House Monday night at 6:00 PM. Jerre Cole and the #6 men's team travels to #3 Kansas City Kansas Community College to meet the Blue Devils at 7:30 PM.
